The beer’s journey begins with the hop fields in Hallertau when Stefan and his team harvest the cones of the Huell Melon type. Immediately after harvest, the green gold is loaded onto a refrigerated truck to begin its journey to Sweden.
Early in the morning eight expectant breweries gather at Stormgatan in Malmö to take part in the freshly harvested hops. Time is of the essence, because the hops must be in the cooking vessels no later than 24 hours after harvesting to prevent them from starting to age. After delivery, each brewery rushed home to complete the brewing before one day has passed since the harvest. The green, pleasant scent of the fresh hop cones take over the brewery.
This is how it happens when we brew this unique, flavorful beer, that can only be produce once a year. The tradition of brewing beer with fresh hops started on the American West Coast in the nineties and has spread to the large hop areas worldwide. Once every year, a brewer goes to their favourite hop farm to choose and pick the hop variety they want.
