Catching up on production with our two favourites, Bobek Citra and Hip Hops – Weekly Brewery Update
In this week’s brewery update we catch up on production when we brew and package two of our favourites, Bobek Citra Pale Ale and Hip Hops IPA.
And with that, Midsummer has come and gone.
This past weekend was an important weekend in the Swedish calendar. It’s the period of time centred upon the summer solstice, and more specifically the Northern European celebrations that accompany the actual solstice or just Midsommar as we call it.
More importantly though it’s a time for everyone to just let go, enjoy the sunshine and get together with friends and family for the tradition lunch which consists of pickled herring, egg, meatballs, hard bread and lots of schnapps. In the end there’s always strawberries.
Catching up on our stock with these two favourites.
Coming back from a weekend away to dance around the Maypole as one does on Midsummer, we got stuck right back into it. On the brewing and packaging list was two of our favourite Ales. First up to package was Bobek Citra, our American Pale Ale, and probably the beer we have brewed the most at our brewery. Second it was time to package Hip Hops, or West Coast IPA.
Both of them have been with us a very long time, if you understand that we’re a brewery that fancies new beers. Bobek Citra has the number 05 whereas Hip Hops has the number 049 in our beer library. Currently we’re on number 195, just a few short of number 200.
We’ve been asked a number of times what we’re planning to do for #200, but sorry, it’s a secret, as is what we’ll be doing for our fifth birthday party next year.
Getting back to the two aforementioned beers. Our stock has taken a knock lately, what with them selling so well at Systembolaget here in Sweden, as well as on export. Especially on export as the export market seem to be a lot more can friendly than Sweden, but we’ve noticed that times are changing, even here.
Both of these beers have been packaged and brewed again this week, so we’ve been filling up our stock, but soon they’re leaving through the brewery door again.
We’ve also ordered new cans, but until they arrive, we’ve settled for just labelling them as we’re doing with all of our other beers. It’s not forever though, just till after summer.

Bobek Citra. East meets West.
Bobek Citra was the 2nd Pale Ale we brewed, and we fell in love with it from the start. It’s gone through all the revision in label designs and also stayed with us long enough to move across from a bottle to a can.
At the brewery we just call it Bobek for short. At the start, we used to just call our beers after their ingredients. In this case an American Pale Ale with the addition of Styrian Bobek Hops from Slovenia and Citra Hops from the US. Bobek is a delicate, spicy aroma hop, similar to Styrian Golding, whereas Citra Hops has citrus (grapefruit) and tropical fruit characters.
Hip Hops. Hipster Hops.
Hip Hops was our twelfth IPA we brewed. That’s if you exclude Pale Ales and Double IPAs. At the time we brewed it, the Hipster trend was just about in full swing here in Sweden, and we decided to do something about it.
That’s where the beer gets its name from, cause we used the current Hipster Hops, or all the Hops that the Hipster were drinking at the time. Citra, Cascade, Columbus, etc. It needed to be a big beer.
But just to mess things up for the Hipsters, a week or so after we launched ”Hip Hops”, we brewed a beer with all the hops that we thought the Hipsters won’t touch. We called that beer ”Not as Hip Hops”. That meant the Hipsters were caught between a rock and a hard place. It was a new beer, which meant they needed to drink it and check it in, but it contained Hops that they won’t touch.
So we had ourselves a little Mexican stand-off 🙂

Drunk Noise is a ”new music” blog, they say just because the internet really needed another one of these. They’re also into their beer, so beside just music they also highlight some beer. Their latest blog post is about the ”10 Essential Beers for Summer 2017”.
The list features the following breweires: Flying Dog Brewery, Schofferhofer Grapefruit, Beerbliotek, Founders Brewing Company, Magic Rock Brewing, Fourpure Brewing Co., Verdant Brewing Co, Beavertown Brewery, Stone Brewing Berlin and Omnipollo.

”Having visited Beerbliotek’s tap room in Gothenburg its fair to say the first word that comes to mind isn’t sunny. Thankfully this Session IPA will do all the travelling for you, and to somewhere a little more beachy. Beerbliotek often feels like a brilliantly-run family brewery, and their beers are never more lovingly crafter than on this delightful session. It pours a beautiful hazy orange with a huge head full of tropical fruits, citrus and grass aromas. This is a seriously impressive, and surprisingly low ABV brew.”
