beerbliotek + Whiplash
Guerillas in our midst
Back in 2018, on the Friday of All In Beer Fest, we collaborated with Whiplash to brew a 8,5% full bodied, smokey, lush porter.
This beer is jammed with chocolate and smooth, roast tones of dark malts, along with a kick of coffee and whisky. We call this beer style an ‘accidental Irish Coffee Robust Porter’. Definitely not an imperial stout.
BREW DATE: 2018-10-28
STYLE: Robust Porter
Whiplash are an Irish brewery, so connotations to the monarchy and imperialism were off the table. At least until we messed about with some Whiplash merch; who knew a photo taken of everyone with their balaclavas and shoe horns on the collaboration brew day would inspire the name and label design of the beer? Well, maybe this isn’t unexpected from us anymore.
Whiplash balaclava and shoe horn merch talk came up during our first brew meet up and of course on their trip over for our 2nd brew, they brought them along. Now, we thought long and hard (well, longish) how to write an explanation of how the photo that inspired the name and label came to be. But it’s mad, as usual. So come say hi to us at a festival and we will do our best to tell you the origin story of Guerillas in our midst!
We met Whiplash at Cornwall a few years back as part of the 3/9 project, a project launched by Harbour Brewing. As well as Alex and Alan being tremendous guys and great fun, beer and stupid jokes started our friendship. Whenever we get together with Whiplash, we know we’re going to have a fun brew day, make a great beer, and push to find new ideas. We will never turn down the chance to brew with these guys.
Together we’ve previously brewed “What Else is New?” a Quadruple with figs and “I can’t Undrink the Things I’ve Drunk” a Berliner Weisse with potato and spruce tips. Cause ya know, Ireland. They’re currently working on their new brewery in Dublin and in typical Whiplash fashion it is going to be a pretty crazy set up. We can’t wait to get the chance to get over to their house again and see if we can break it.
They are mad, but one of the best. Alex is one of the most technical, enthusiastic people in the beer industry. His thirst for knowledge, and passion, keep their beers at the top of our list. And with Alan pulling the strings, they’re set for greatness.

We are Beerbliotek
A Craft Brewery founded in Gothenburg (Sweden) by four friends from different parts of the world. Our brewing philosophy is simple… keep brewing new beers that we, ourselves, would want to drink.
Our name is derived from the Latin word bibliothēca, meaning library, or a collection of books. A Beerbliotek, for us, would then mean a beer library, or a collection of beer.
