A Berliner Weisse 4-pack, visiting our friends at Brewski & Brekeriet and one more Tap Room Open Weekend – Weekly Brewery Update
In this week’s brewery update we talk about Lovechild, our latest new beer at Systembolaget, as well as our plan to release a four-pack from our Berliner Weisse range. Then we’ve also taken the brewing staff to visit our friends at Brekeriet and Brewski in the south of Sweden to discuss beers and brewing.
Tasting beers and having a good time.
Three months ago we officially opened the Beerbliotek Tap Room. Since then we’ve had more than twenty five different beers available on tap, bottle and can. This last week we had no less than twelve beers available to taste. Both Bobek Citra and Not Guilty! The Juice IPA was fresh, kegged during the last week.
Our Tap Room is always open every second week, Fridays and Saturdays. Fridays are more of an afterwork crowd, whereas Saturdays we tend to see more babies joining their parents for a couple of beer tastings. Just today I passed four prams on my way in. Dogs are also more common during Saturdays, and as always, they’re very welcome. We already have two dogs at the brewery, Cookie and Nelson, so it doesn’t hurt with a few more.
So both days are really great, and different in their own way. Whichever one you choose to attend, there’s always a new beer on tap, and a full selection of beers in the fridge.
Have a look at our Tap Room page, for opening dates and time, and we hope to see you soon.
Visiting our friends at Brekeriet & Brewski.
At the end of last year, we had a great road trip with the entire brewery to Stockholm. Across the country to visit with our friends at Stockholm Brewing and brew some beer. This time around, it was only the brewers who hopped in a car and headed south to our friends at Brekeriet and Brewski for a bit of brewing chat. It’s always good to see what other breweries look like on the inside. The discussions about how they brew beer is really good too. Then you never know what collaborations have been discussed 🙂
Brewski is not a normal brewery 🙂 They tend to explore and set new limits for what can and cannot be done, just because nobody has done a kind of beer before, doesn’t mean it can’t be done. Once a year they also have a great outdoor beer festival in Helsingborg, called Brewskival, which was great this last year.
Brekeriet on the other hand is a small scale craft beer brewery in the south of Sweden. In 2015 they re-located to a newly renovated facility in Landskrona. They started started off in the small village Djurslöv outside of Malmö in 2012. Their niche is, as the only brewery in Sweden, to ferment their beers with nothing but wild yeast and/or bacteria. They then also secondary ferment many of their beers with berries or fruit in order to further enhance the taste experience.
Two great breweries to join the other great Craft Breweries that have appeared in Sweden in the past 5 years.
Hello Sweden. Hello Systembolaget.
In the last two years we’ve been looking at the best way for us to show off our style of brewing at Systembolaget. If you’re not aware of our philosophy, it’s to brew new and exciting beers, and build a beer library. We have a Standard Assortment, but complement it with our One-Off Bathes of beers. This means not all beers make it to Systembolaget, but a lot more will as of 2017. To find out what we’re planning to do, then you could read my interview with Richard Bull, one of our head brewers about how we’re launching new beers at Systembolaget in 2017.
Below is our current assortment at Systembolaget in Sweden.
As part of our plan, we’ll be launching new beers on a monthly basis to Systembolaget, so that our Swedish customers can get hold of them and buy them to drink at home. This year so far we have released three beers; Pop Corn Hop Porn, an IPA that was brewed with Pop Corn, Sabotage, a Black IPA brewed in collaboration with O|O Brewing and our latest, Lovechild.
Lovechild. Sour Saison.

Lovechild was our first Sour Beer. It was a collaboration between ourselves, Beavertown and Brekeriet. We just released it at Systembolaget, in this past week, and there’s not a lot left 🙂 It was brewed in April 2015, so has been aged for nearly two years, before we all decided it was perfect to share it. All the kegs have gone a long time ago, and now there’s just 1 200 bottles that went to Systembolaget.
It’s a fruity Saison with a tangy flavour. There’s hints of Honey, Apricot, Clover Flowers and Lemon.
Berliner Weisse four-pack anyone?
During July last year, we brewed our first Berliner Weisse, or Berliner as we call them for short. It was a standard Berliner Weisse, nothing fancy, no added fruit or anything, and we called it Berliner Wise-Guy. Since then we’ve added eight different version of it. It’s basically the same recipe, but then we’ve added everything from Passion Fruit, Mangoes, Blueberries, Lactose, Raspberries, Peaches, and more. The designs have also changed with these beers. More illustrations and a lot more jokes.
Two of them have been canned, while the others have stayed in bottles. The first one, A Passion for Gingers, was the only one that we added to our range at Systembolaget, whilst all of them are on 3,8% the last two, Nah… just had some ice cream and What’s Better than eating a Mandarin? has been brewed at 3,5%. This allows us in Sweden to sell them directly to the public from the brewery. If it’s over 3,5% it has to, by law, be sold at Systembolaget.
As part of our Systembolaget plan, we’re looking to release a four-pack of these beers during the next couple of months. Which ones we’ll share with you pretty soon.
And finally
There’s only two weeks left before the start of the GBG Beer Week 2017, and already two of our events have sold out. That’s the Beermakers Dinner with Björns Bar, who actually added five more place mid-week, and then our Troublemakers Party sold out this past Monday. There’s a few places left for the Beermakers Brunch at Tapasbaren as well as the Beermakers Lunch at Restaurant Project, which is a great place to eat lunch, before you head of the the Gothenburg Beer and Whisky Fair.
There’s a few more events at the Beerbliotek Tap Room during the week, as well as out in town, so be sure not to miss it.
That’s it from a cold Gothenburg. Keep well.
🙂
